Every day in 24 is broken into 2 distinct sections. With the wrap up of the Whitehouse we now enter into the 2nd sequence. So far, not so bad! Certainly better than the previous family drama crap we had last season. Sorta bummed about Bill but hey, at least it wasnt Chloe, my favorite GILF.

Now that the writers' strike is over, watercooler talks shifted from "when will the strike be over" to "what shows will come back, when, and for how many episodes." One show that fans were extremely looking forward to (mostly after seeing the video after the jump) was 24. The series, first set to return in January 2008, was shelved by FOX so that season 7 could air uninterrupted.

When FOX made that announcement, some of us predicted that the show wouldn't return until at least mid-August. Since the network is known for starting it's fall season a bit early for certain shows (e.g., Prison Break), maybe the series could have aired from mid-August until the end of December with a few 2-hour long episodes. But it looks like this option won't happen. Instead, we will have to wait 11 months to see what happens next in Jack Bauer's life!
Season 7 trailer..........a surprise character returns.......... YES THERE ARE SPOILERS, but by January of 2009, you'll likely forget you watched this.

2008?

so the superbowl weekend has been the historical start to the 24 season, right? it seems that way since i started watching it a few years ago. i went to the show's website, and maybe my lack of patience prevailed, but i couldn't find the anticipated beginning of the 08 season. anyone know when that'll be?

and on the site they're polling fans as to who we want to see back. karen, bill, wayne, or chloe?....duh. you think most of the geeks out there wouldn't want to see chloe above all the others? personally. i think it's time for a mass change of the guard. i think it'd be cool if jack were working against the forces of evil who have taken over ctu and the gov (seems true-to-life); a renegade vigilante working the system from the outside; a way to reestablish the fanbase and give us hope after last year's dismal failures and overall weakness.

which brings me to the next thought in my string: anyone out there looking forward to this season, even if skeptical after last season? how long will it take you to say, "screw this, i'm going home and taking my ball with me"last season seemed right and dandy until about the fourth episode. then it was a tenuous struggle of "i've invested 4 hours into this, so i better stick it out for 20 more." at which point it was like "i just wasted 24 hours of my life, now what?" so that's not saying much for the two hour season premier. it's bound to wow and pull us back into its gravity, but will it be possible to tell whether the season is bang or bust? gold or rust?

who's looking foward to this? because although i love the show for what it was, it seems like last season sullied the good name that was 24.

but did jack's dad ever tip off that he killed the bro? did anyone ever catch on, or is it still on jack's head that he used too much pain juice on the little guy?
it came up in conversation and i just wondered if that's something that'll weigh on jacky's mind?

That was the sorriest excuse for a finale that I've seen out of this show. 3 things: 1. Chloe's baby is Milo's. 2. Why didn't Jack make sure his dad was dead? 3. Did anyone else think he was gonna either shoot himself or jump off the cliff there at the end? I was sorely disappointed with the finale and the fact that they didn't have any preview for next season. I'm beginning to think that the franchise is finally dead, despite the hope I gave it here toward the end. That's all for now.

Oh yeah, I loved what happened to Doyle :)

5/14 Episode (spoilers)

I enjoyed the first half of the show, with all the action and Jack getting back to doing what he does best. Even MOrris got involved, I guess to redeem himself from being a coward earlier.

But, I'm not quite sure I can swallow the story line of Jack's dad doing all this to SAVE his grandson. Phillip Bauer killed one of his sons, almost killed Jack and doesn't give two shits about the daughter-in-law, but is willing to sabotage his country to save his grandson?

It must run in the family...... Josh gets away from Cheng, then pulls a "kim" to get himself in trouble so that Jack has to save him and the bad guy gets away.

And what's up with CTU snatching Josh? Why didn't the VP just call CTU and have Jack informed of his father's demands and work WITH Jack? Haven't they (and Mike) learned by now that Jack can be very resourceful. (and that Jack is usually right). He would have figured a way to make it seem like they were meeting his father's demands, while still plotting to capture him and retrieve the component.

Question: Are the producers of 24 completely clueless? In a season with no surprises and very little originality, why do they continue to blow any suspense by listing "unexpected" characters in the guest credits before the program begins? In the past two weeks, the appearances of William Devane and James Cromwell, respectively, might have caused us to sit up (or even wake up) if we had not known they were coming. Who didn't figure out Jack's father was the one calling the shots in that ludicrous invasion on CTU (the most porous place on earth) once Cromwell's name appeared in the credits? 24 can't afford to miss even one opportunity to surprise its audience, yet it continues to sabotage itself. Why?— Jan A.

Matt Roush: At this point in the game, why ask why? Let's just tough it out like grown-ups and wait for the show to reinvent itself next season. The William Devane moment (a restraining order against Jack? Really?) was so absurd that I didn't care that they blew the reveal, but it's true that bringing back Jack's dad should have been kept in the dark until the last moment. It wouldn't have made it much more dramatically credible ” although the raid on CTU did at least resemble the good old suspenseful days of yore, and it did give us the added benefit of killing off Eric Balfour's dreadful Milo character. At the very least, it's just a matter of common sense that Cromwell's return should have been kept a surprise instead of making us wonder all episode when he would turn up.

Right now, my biggest gripe about the overall season is that, no matter how many times Jack saves the day and saves the world, no one cuts him a break. He doesn't get out of custody until the Chinese have already taken over CTU. Nadia won't let him go after Cheng. Audrey's dad won't let him near his daughter. No one listens to Jack, which is why "the component" gets in the hands of the Chinese in the first place. And so on. I really do hope Jack is a Ludlum-esque lone wolf next season. None of these boobs deserves him.

ok. so, I didn't see the Milo thing coming. I gasped. I thought the bad guy was just going to take him away for "questioning".

What is your feeling about Jack's dad? Is he cooperating with the Chinese on his own? Is he being forced to do so with a threat against Josh? He only seems to care that Josh is safe, not Jack or the Marilyn.

How did he know the CTU security codes to give to Cheng and his men?

Jack back shooting people is what I think we all want to see. (even if it did bring flashes of Die Hard to mind, with him being the only one not captured).

Will Doyle return to save CTU, he noticed something in Nadia's voice? Or will Jack manage to handle it himself from inside and take out most of the Chinese team.

I know it seems like a long time coming for this season, but I'm suckered in again. I can't wait until next week now.

The best thriller on television, the 21st century's own James Bond franchise, has become a soap opera.

"24" (9 p.m., WXXA Ch. 23) has always had its share of melodrama. But we could forgive that (and the show's many lapses in logic) because the thrills and spills never stopped coming.

But this year, we were asked to forget all about suitcase nukes and thousands of civilian casualties and to care about ... Audrey.

This season we saw Jack go from saving the world to saving his girlfriend, and we all said, "Huh?"

Unfortunately, I couldn't access the rest of the story without having to subscribe to something. My Dad had the entire article and it just goes onto say how many are dissappointed with the direction the show has taken. How we are left with the bickering between MOrris and Chloe, the marital troubles of Bill and Karen, and of course Jack and Audrey's failing relationship.

I thought this was a real good episode. I liked the plot twist with the bomb strike and the President, the fake rescue scenario and Jack "f*((*n Bauer taking out an entire team by himself. I knew someone was going to be choked by the chain strategically hanging there. Doyle's reaction was the best.

Of course, with the bomb's wrapped up so early, you knew there was something else. How many of you said "Audrey" when Jack was told he had a phone call from the 'sat com'.
Does this mean that Audrey is what CTU traded to get Jack back?

I still think this is one of the best shows on tv, but I'm getting a sense of Deja Vu........

Assination attempt of a Palmer
Possible removal from office of a Palmer
Mole inside CTU (real or perceived)

then, last night there was the "oh, come on" moments for me.......

the very "UNHOT" kiss of Milo & Nadia
the Rain Man brother
and the sudden emergence out of a coma, (non the worse for wear). One second, his brain his swelling again and he's in trouble.............the next he's awake and alert!!!! Made for a good shocking tv moment, but..........

Was that moment with Doyle planned or not? At first I thought maybe he set it up, knowing the other agent (Johnson?) was going to snitch on him for having the proof that cleared Nadia, so he intentionally turned it in without that guy knowing so that he (Doyle) would look good to CTU. But then he told the guy he screwed with the wrong person. I thought maybe Doyle was going to tell the other agent, that he couldn't trust him and knew that he would try to screw him over.

Palmer now wants the Military strike! What was in that shot they gave him?

Doyle covers for Milo instead of turning him in? Not the picture we were being painted of his character.

Gredenko turns in Fayed. Though Fayed is assisting him in escaping, especially since he now only has one arm. Do you suppose that was an agreed upon action, or Fayed and his men forcably took off the arm? And how? with what?
I suppose now Gredenko may bleed to death under pier.

Why is Lennox still around?

I never have figured out his character. He wants to push his own agenda and fights with President Palmer II about it all the time. Then he finds out that he (or his plan) is the golden boy of the shadow government. Reed talks him into treason and Lennox plays along only to change his mind at the last minute.

Now he tries to stop the assasination attempt and yet he is still around! He tries to implicate Reed and the other guy, but it seems that the VP is in on the plot anyway. I just don't understand why Lennox's character is still involved in the show at this time unless he will somehow join forces with Karen Hayes to expose the plotters. That is the only way that Lennox still being alive (as a character) makes any sense.

Of course, he could get offed at the beginning of next week (tragic hand-dryer accident in the mens room) and this will all be for naught :)

Here I was waiting anxiously to see how Jack would get away from the Chinese and get back in the saddle and such before the season started and it has all fallen down for me. I don't feel for Jack. I like the terrorists and want them to blow up the 24 production offices and take the writers out. For me, 24 has finally jumped the rails after all these years. And what happened to the Dad? He's gone???

Part of the trick that made 24 work in the past was that it wasn't just Jack trying to save the country and thwarting a terrorist plot but that he had a personal stake in what was going on, i.e. Kim and Terri, Audrey and so on. It fell into parody with Kim especially but that has been sorely lacking this year. Marilyn? Nope, not working. I'll finish off the season because I have Tivo and I like to finish things but there are much better things on the same night unfortunately now.

I mean why would they just let Al-Assad through the door without searching him especially since they're in the middle of a nuclear terror crisis? I now it's just a TV show, but I'd assume that a lot of Americans would be asking the same questions if it were real.

ever notice, no one ever goes to the bathroom or eats in the 24 hour period??? I mean, the closest thing i have seen re: leisure time was Morris going out for smokes and some whisky. Oh, and i love how Chloe tells Morris that she is going to watch him for the rest of the shift....like, after they put in 8 hours, they all get up and punch the clock. Haha, just once i would like to see the CTU gang hangin out after work at the local watering hole and spinning tales of the days events.....smoking joints and telling each other who they want to have sex with.

just one question................
why after getting the info he needed did Jack put away his gun and so casually walk toward the doors to leave? he knew there were people out there waiting to come in because he had told them NOT to enter the room or he would shot Markov.

and why did the Russian consulate guy leave the room where Jack was being held to call CTU? there wasn't anyone else in the room, and he could have locked the door. (ok that was 2 questions) But you knew he was going to get caught as soon as he left the door open to the room where he went to make the phone call.

Showtime's Sleeper Cell

I rented the first season a couple of months ago. It's got a 24 flavor. The show is shot from the perspective of our protagonist, an african american muslim fbi agent in deep cover with an islamic sleeper cell in L.A. Most of us 24 fans will like it and appreciate the greater effort at tieing up those pesky plot holes though I never really fell in love with any of the characters, which is 24's strong point for me.

BBC's The State Within

If you love 24 (and of course we do) then you will probably absolutely love the BBC's recent miniseries The State Within. It's more or less the 2nd half of last season on 24 without the giant helpings of campiness and suspension of disbelief required with 24. If you get a chance look it up. It's 7.5 hours of really well acted and much better written espionage/thriller.

ok, so I didn't see that coming. One question..........shouldn't Logan be in jail? the show picked up a year and a half after last season, but I would think someone who was possibly charged with treason against the country would be spending a significant amount of time behind bars. I guess we just have to wait for the explanation of Logan's role.

btw...........maybe I missed it, but did we ever learn what exactly they gave the Chinese gov't for Jack's return?

Okay, please, please, PLEASE tell me I misheard this, because I rewound and listened to it like 5 times.

When Jack is talking to Bill about the helicopter coming for him, I swear it sounds like Jack signed off by saying "Thanks Pal!" It really, really did not sound like he said "Thanks Bill" to me. Am I the only one? Do I need my hearing checked?

You know, one of these years I'm going to watch a season of 24, and count how many times a genuine smile shows up on one of the main characters. I bet I can count them on one hand!!! Gotta love those dramas...

And how about that tagline, "Jack Bauer, America's answer to James Bond!" Ummmm....well....okay, MAYBE. But not Connery's. No way! :-P

You know, some people say that 24 is right-wing propaganda. I however, disagree since the earliest episodes were produced before 9-11 happened. It seems to me that 24 is more about fighting terrorism effectively than it is about scaring people into supporting Bush's policies. Otherwise, the writers of 24 would've been just as clueless as BushCo was (and still is) about terrorism. "But Bush wasn't clueless, and 9-11 was Clinton's fault." That may or may not be true, but my current opinion is that BushCo was (and still is) clueless about terrorism.

so, in 20 hours this show is supposed to locate and dismantle 4 more nukes?! this should be interesting. suspension of disbelief, no doubt.
any wagers on how many more suitcases are going to explode?
and it might be sad for me to admit it, but maybe the reality of suicide bombers in iraq on a daily basis, israel, spain, the uk. but did it actually shock anyone to see multiple bombers on the show?
i know...it's only a show, a primer for future attacks, maybe, but i wasn't really shocked nor awed by the frequency of attacks. president palmer surprised me more. that's just me.
yay for monday! and thank god there's a show that makes me want to shout that from the hills.

OK, even for 24, which I watch with a huge shaker of salt next to me and to which I sit down with the conscious intention to ignore "the small stuff," this is stretching. Does anyone else have a problem with the implausibility of any of the following?

1. A terrorist being that hung up on getting one (very hard to obtain) man as his personal plaything as part of a deal with the U.S. gov't?
2. POTUS/Congress actually giving something really big up to _China_ for one dude (even JB)?
3. The Chinese actually going for #2?
4. CTU not having thought about going the private satellite route before Morris thought of it? HELLO!!
5. Given #4, CTU accessing said satellite through private channels (i.e. send a team to the satellite owner's base of operations to control it from there)?
6. CTU not even sending some lone agent without any electronica to stake out the drop spot where Jack got chained to the grate?
7. A terrorist not checking the BP cuff on Jack F'ing _Bauer_ before going anywhere near him when he "flatlined?"
8. Fayed seeing the obviously open grate left by Jack F'ing _Bauer_ and thinking Jack actually went that way? HELLO!! Jack F'ing _BAUER_.

Finally, while I thought it was a slightly interesting twist to go from innocent-boy Behruz with bad-guy dad to innocent dad with bad-guy son, it was keenly obvious that it was the kid as soon as he didn't want to go to the neighbors' house. Any normal H.S. kid who's just almost been lynched by the angry redneck Neighborhood Watch is going to jump on that offer.

Do I just need to get st*ned or slightly inebriated or both before tonight's ep so I can chill TFO? Or is anyone else sorta thinking "meh?"

Of course, if the "Episodes 3&4" thread is any indication, my mind's about to be blown in 11 minutes. Whose car will blow up tonight? :)

As Washington continues to raise concerns about terror threats on The Homeland -- a recent CIA report outlined a scenerio of possible "series of explosions using 'low charge' nuclear weapons" -- Hollywood and FOX-TV are set to up the ante with the new season of 24!

Few outside of the 24 set know the exact details of the new season unfolding, but studio sources claim producers are pushing hard to take it radioactive this time -- and keep it there.

"Time to wake the country up!" a top FOX source told the DRUDGE REPORT over the weekend. "I do not think there has ever been TV done like this, the viewer is going to be completely riveted."

The source claims executives are prepared for any fallout from local municipalities that may be on the receiving end of plot turns and twists. How many cities 24 puts on 'nuke alert' is unclear.

FOX has set a highly-controversial espisode of 24 to air Monday night, opposite NBC's GOLDEN GLOBES.

In 2002, White House officials questioned the timing and release of PARAMOUNT's action movie SUM OF ALL FEARS -- a movie which depicts a nuclear bomb unleashed on an American sporting event!

One senior Bush official, who spoke to the DRUDGE REPORT at the time, claimed the movie crossed over the line of civic responsibility and commerce.

Since the season is over, and 24 has a reputation for stretching plausibility, even though this season wasn't as nearly bad as previous ones in that arena, what are your nominees for stupidest moments in any of its seasons?

My favorite one hands down is the season where the Cabinet fires the President for not launching that air attack against that country suspected of terrorism. The President is going to be removed from office, and on the grounds of being incapable of executing his duties (as if he was brain dead or nuts), for not attacking a country within 24 hours of the event he's supposed to be retaliating against?

Talk about impatient.

Just caught this in the entertainment section of my paper:

Season 6 kicks off Sunday January 14 8:00 with the customary 2 hour premiere chased immediately by another two hours the next night.

Among the new faces for this season are Peter MacNicol (Numbers) as a presidential aide, Peter Cromwell (6 feet under) as Jack's dad, Regina King ( Ray) as an attorney, and Eric Balfour reprising his role as a CTU agent from season 1.

Despite how Monday's season finale left off, the sixth season of Fox's 24 will not pick up with Jack Bauer riding a slow boat to China as a political prisoner. "I don’t think much of the story will take place in China," executive producer Howard Gordon tells the trade mag TV Week. "It's just an impractical thing given the real-time constraints, because it would take Jack 16 hours — three-quarters of the [season] — to get back to L.A." If Jack's imprisonment isn't the hook for 24's January '07 return, what is? Howard shared no details, noting, "I just started writing the first [episode] this morning" — meaning only two or three main characters have been killed thus far.

Crap!

After 55 minutes of a well-done episode (well, except for inexplicably transferring Bierko), they go and fuck it up at the end.

You mean to tell me that, despite all Jack and company went through to get that recording, and despite all involved being very very clear on how very fucking important the recording is, instead of listening to it on the spot, or at least making a copy of it, they leave Chloe alone with it, out in the open, in a unlocked conference room? And then Miles just strolls in and erases it with a magnet? For heaven's sake. That's so way beyond stupid.

If you pardon my use of an overused phrase, that mght be the moment 24 "jumped the shark."

Y'know, I loved Season One. One of the best shows I'd ever seen. Thought Season Two was almost as good and was okay with Seasons Three and Four. But Season Five will probably be my last. The writers aren't even trying anymore.
